Unfortunately, luggage theft continues to upset travelers - both at home airports and abroad. To insure yourself from opening a suitcase, unfortunately, is almost impossible, but there are simple tricks that will help to reduce the risk of such a trouble.

№1: The right lock

Unfortunately, the usual lock, that goes with many suitcases, can be easily cut by simple wire cutters. Burglars find it harder to deal with digital locks or simple code locks, that fix zipper runners - of course, and these locks can be opened with some effort and skills. However, burglars do not have much time when they are opening suitcases, therefore they prefer suitcases with simple locks

№2: Hidden zipper

Did you know that it is easy to open a suitcase by simply shoving a ballpoint pen into the zipper track? Returning to trick #1, keep in mind: the opened zipper is easy to close as if nothing had happened, if the lock does not fix the position of the zipper runners. This is how the burglars cover up traces. You can play safe and choose suitcase with "hidden" zipper or give preference to brands that use in their suitcases and bags zippers of complex construction – they can’t be opened with a pen.

№3: Wrapping with a plastic film

How a plastic film can help - save your suitcase from scratches and dirt. In fact, the film also reduces the probability that a suitcase will be opened. The fact is that thefts at airports often happen where there are no security cameras. In the sorting rooms, as a rule, cameras are everywhere, that is why dishonest airport staff manage to "clean" luggage during its transportation and loading-unloading. Removing the film from the suitcase doesn’t take much time, but at the same time it attracts attention. Therefore, wrapped suitcases are more often delivered to the owner perfectly safe.

№:4 Less brands

Expensive suitcases automatically "shout" to potential burglars about the value of their content. This especially applies to suitcases, that have lots of catchy logos. Believe us, airport employees know perfectly the names of brands and the average cost of their products. Want to lull the vigilance of burglars - do not register your expensive luggage.

№5: Say "No" to soft bags

Soft bags are much easier to be checked for the presence of valuable things in them - cameras, laptops and other gadgets. In addition, professional burglars open them easily. The main rule is: do not put valuables into your luggage! And if it is an urgent need, at least, do not put them into soft bags and backpacks.

Please note that on the territory of the US it is only allowed to use special TSA locks - airport security services open these locks without damage, using a special key. Such suitcases have a mark in the form of a red diamond. If your suitcase is not equipped with a TSA lock, and you are travelling to the US, be prepared that security representative can open your suitcase in any way and by any means. In this case, you won’t be able to raise a claim, alas.
