Mobile phone
While driving you are allowed use only loudspeaker mode or hands-free headset. In Austria, a telephone stand is also mandatory. In case of breaking this law you can get a high penalty.
Driving speed
In most countries, the maximum speed allowed is the same - up to 50 km/h in populated areas, up to 90 km/h outside populated areas and up to 120 km/h on a highway. The exception is the German autobahns. If there is no speed limit sign on the German autobahn, then 130 km/h is just recommended speed, but not necessary. Please note that there is also a minimum speed limit on the highways - here you cannot drive at a speed below 60 km/h.
Seat belts
In Europe everybody must be fastened - both drivers and passengers. As for children under 12 and with height up to 150 cm, everyone should sit in a child safety seat according to age norms. Please note that in Sweden, children weighing up to 13 kg must be transported rear-facing.
Hand of drive
In Europe, only in 3 countries the traffic is left-hand - the UK, Ireland and Malta. In all other countries, the traffic is right hand.
The stops
To make a stop on a highway is allowed only in specially allotted place. On roadsides it is strictly prohibited to stop, exception is car breakdown. In addition, you can leave the car only in a reflective waistcoat, regardless of the time of day. As for autobahns, in an accident or a breakdown happened, the driver and all passengers are obliged to leave the territory of the autobahn (to go behind the barrier).
Video registrators and radar detectors
Video registrators in Europe are rarely used. However, they are officially forbidden in Spain and Austria, and in Switzerland it is required a special permission. In many countries, anti-radars are under strict prohibition, and even if such is found in a glovebox, you can get a high penalty.
Car horn
To honk a horn on the roads in Europe is allowed only to prevent an accident or in emergency situations. In Luxembourg, to honk a horn in the city is forbidden in general.
Overtaking and driving ahead
In Europe, there is no difference between these terms, so if the sign prohibits overtaking, it is also not allowed to drive ahead of the other vehicle. Also in most countries you cannot get ahead on the right side outside of the city, although in Spain, on the right, people are overtaking constantly.
Objects and liquids in the car
In France each driver must carry his own certified breathalyzer. In Spain a driver with poor eyesight is supposed to have a spare pair of glasses. In Sweden in winter everyone in the car should have a spade and antifreeze spray. In the Czech Republic and France you must have spare sets of light bulbs.
Some countries (Cyprus, Greece, Luxembourg) prohibit the transportation of gasoline in a canister. Austria limits the amount of canister contents to 10 liters, in Poland - up to 20 liters, in Italy - up to 30 liters.
