Sewing dresses for sisters and neighbors. Little Elie used to take old tablecloths, curtains, and sew women's clothing based on his own sketches. At 17, clearly understanding what he needed from life and who he sees himself in the future, Elie Saab decided to learn the art of fashion in Paris. But he failed to gain a foothold in the capital of fashion, so the future designer returned to his native Beirut and opened his atelier there. That's how the brand Elie Saab was born.
It was a difficult period for everyone, Lebanon was in the middle of war and it would seem like not the best time for creative endeavors. But, apparently, those were stresses, fatigue, anxiety and daily involuntary risk of life that pushed people to the beautiful - something that will help to forget about the horrors of reality for at least a minute.
