Eiffel Tower (Paris, France)
The Eiffel Tower is probably one of the most romantic places in the world, and almost every girl dreams to visit it. However, with a long-awaited meeting comes disappointment. The fact is that the Eiffel Tower is not as high as you see it in movies. To climb it, you need to stand a long queue, after which you will desperately want to take time out and rest. On the square under the tower the place itself is crowded and is full of pickpockets, and street vendors constantly haunt the passersby, selling trinkets on dirty blankets and constantly running from the police.
The Great Sphinx (Giza, Egypt)
Next to the famous Great Egyptian pyramids, you can find the equally famous statue of the Sphinx, which was carved out of stone more than 4.5 thousand years ago. Tourists who travel to see the Great Sphinx, usually expect that the word "Great" really corresponds to something gigantic, but the idea of the size of the statue is greatly exaggerated.
Walk of Fame (Los Angeles, United States)
Are you dreaming to stroll down the Hollywood Walk of Fame? Buckingham Palace (London, UK)
Anyone who thinks that a tour to Buckingham Palace promises walks through the royal halls and beautifully trimmed park alleys is obviously mistaken. The Statue of Liberty (New York, USA)
The legendary Statue of Liberty, looking at which even a teenager can recognize New York, is impressive in its scale and significance when you look at it through the TV screen. But at a personal meeting, tourists are often frustrated. The height of the statue without a pedestal is only 46 meters, which is actually below the typical Soviet 16-story building. Given the fact that the statue rises in the middle of the bay, it is obviously expected to have greater hugeness.
The Little Mermaid (Copenhagen, Denmark)
The Little Mermaid, depicting the character of the fairy tale by G.-H. Andersen is a true symbol of Copenhagen. People first get to know it from postcards and photographs. However, getting to the place where the monument is located, many tourists will be disappointed. Firstly, the statue of the Little Mermaid is installed in the port, far from the promenade. Secondly, the size of the main character of the favorite fairy tale is more than modest - the height of the monument is only 125 cm and it is quite difficult to examine it. In addition, not very observant tourists just pass by this landmark of the city.
Mona Lisa (Paris, France)
To see a picture of a woman with the most mysterious smile - La Gioconda - a huge number of tourists come to the Louvre in Paris every year. But after seeing the portrait of Mona Lisa, many do not believe that this is the most famous artifact. Most of them are surprised at the small size of the painting, hidden behind the armored glass and fenced off for a long distance. Consider that you won’t be able to view the picture properly because of a large number of tourists.
The White House (Washington, USA)
The White House is the residence of American presidents. Some travelers confuse it with the building of the United States Congress - a large Capitol with a distinctive dome. In fact, the White House does not look like a huge palace or a complex of buildings. This is a relatively small building, which tourists mainly view only through a metal fence.
