Carry-on baggage and its features
Each traveler’s belongings consist of baggage that a passenger delivers before boarding a plane and a carry-on baggage, which he takes with him on board. And sometimes, because of ignorance of the nuances, unpleasant situations arise - you have to leave some stuff at the airport, waste time and can even get into troubles.
To begin with, each airline has its own rules for transportation of carry-on baggage, its allowable dimensions and the list of prohibited items, which can be specified on the website of the airline or airport itself.
The average allowable dimensions of carry-on baggage are 55 * 40 * 20 cm (this is the length, width, height of the bag) or 115 cm in the sum of three dimensions. Why exactly these sizes? Such a bag can easily fit on the top shelf of the aircraft or under the front seat, which are the requirements of the safety rules in the aircraft. The load should not exceed 10 kg by weight. But, nevertheless, each airline has its own regulations, which it is better to specify in advance.
The things you should totally have with you on board
An experienced traveler knows that some items should always be at hand during the flight. But if you are on the road for the first time, just check out the list we have prepared:
- required documents, passports;
- cash;
- food for a baby, If you intend to travel with one;
- if necessary - medicine. In this case, the presence of references or recipes is highly desirable.
Shipping Rules:
Of course, different companies may have individual rules, and bans may vary depending on the country of arrival. But there is a universal list, that is worth remembering:
- You can not carry weapons. But during international sporting events, transportation of certain types of weapons is permitted, if all documents are available. Stabbing, sharp objects (nail files, nail scissors, folding knives, etc.) are prohibited.
- It is forbidden to transport liquids with a volume of more than 1 l, and the packages should not exceed 100 ml. If you are transporting cosmetics, shampoos, gels, sprays, perfumes, all of this will be counted in the total volume of liquid. It is better to be safe in advance and purchase travel kits and pack the bottles of 100 ml in a transparent bag on a zip-clasp.
- There is an exception for transporting liquid baby food that a child may need during a flight. But keep in mind that security services often ask travelers to open a baby bottle with food so that parents can try the contents.That is how they check the safety of the liquid.
- As for food in hand luggage, it is more dependent on the customs regulations of the countries between which you are flying. For example, it is officially forbidden to import food to the United States. You can't take cheese on a plane with you in France. In most countries it is prohibited to import animal products to prevent an epidemic. So it is better to refrain from transporting sandwiches and homemade food in hand luggage.
Permitted items in carry-on baggage
Of course, the list of permitted items is as big as the list of prohibited. What can you take with you onboard:
- Bars, cereals, cookies, nuts and other food in factory packaging. You can take with you fruits, dried fruits and other solid food.
- It is allowed to carry a first aid kit with medicines in solid form. Liquid medicines can be transported in containers of up to 100 ml or with a doctor's certificate that you need to have them with you on board. The same applies to the transport of syringes and needles. They must also be approved by a doctor, especially for passengers with insulin-dependent diabetes.
- Electronic devices such as hair dryers, irons, electric shavers, hair curlers, telephones, cameras, laptops, e-books, and chargers for them are allowed. In general, if the appliance fits into the parameters of hand luggage, it is allowed to be transported on board. It should be noted that batteries and large batteries need to be carried in hand luggage, making sure that they do not interlock with each other.
- You can carry 1 disposable lighter in carry-on baggage for 1 passenger, but gasoline lighters like Zippo are forbidden for transportation on most airlines. Smoking on board is prohibited, therefore, the use of electronic cigarettes and IQOS cigarettes is prohibited.
Restrictions on the volume of containers in hand luggage do not apply to alcohol and perfume bought in duty-free. But they must be carried in the original sealed bag to which the check is attached. Drinking alcohol from duty-free on board is prohibited.
It is also worth remembering that the passenger, and not the carrier, is responsible for the safety of hand luggage (as is the case with baggage). Therefore, you should carefully look after your things.
