Guerlain perfumery house is one of the oldest in the world. It was founded in 1828 by the Frenchman Pierre Francois Pascal Guerlain. At that time expensive perfumes were produced in the closet in a pharmacy store, where Guerlain used to work, mixing the fragrances. The clients of Guerlain usually were rich and famous people. Among the honorary customers were Balzac, Queen Victoria and Queen Isabella II of Spain, as well as Napoleon III – for his wedding perfumer prepared a very special gift – a perfume Eau de Cologne Impériale.
Guerlain's sons raised the family business to a new level. It was Aimé Guerlain, who first had "laid out" flavors into three components – top, heart and base notes. The famous fragrance Jicky, released by Guerlain sons in 1889 was the first unisex perfume ever created. Under the direction of Aimé company started to mix natural and synthetic components. But, Guerlain still tries to use in its products as much natural ingredients as possible. According to the rules of the brand the proportion of synthetic materials cannot exceed 20%.
A lot of people know by their own experience that the Guerlain perfumes always stand out among other fragrances. The secret is in the firm chord, which has already been named “guerlinad”. Of course no one knows what exactly forms these notes, but we can be sure that some of the components are rose, vanilla and tonka beans.
The bottle is another distinctive feature of Guerlain perfumes. A great attention is paid to the design of every perfume bottle, after all according to the brand philosophy, a bottle for a fragrance is the same thing as a dress for a woman.
The legendary perfume Shalimar, oriental and amber, is one of the best selling in the world. It was presented to the public at the beginning of XX century, and from the very beginning was a hit in Europe.
Besides the huge contribution to the perfume industry, Guerlain has also created the case with twisting lipstick – the same women all around the world use now. Lipstick-pencil made from soft pink wax surprised Parisian not only by the most convenient method of application, but also by the fact that the lipstick block can be replaced with a new one. Very romantic name of the lipstick was imprinted on it`s case– “Ne m’oubliez pas” (eng. “Don't forget me”).
Another invention of the Guerlain House is a pearl powder Météorites. The first bottle with multicolored pearls appeared in 1987, and that was a hit! The thing is that until the appearance of the “meteorites” girls could only use either compact or loose powder. Thanks to the special blend of shades of the little pearls, skin becomes glowing, and the tone of the face perfectly aligned.
Guerlain – is the perfect example of family business. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the brands founder created more and more powerful company with every generation by promoting products and making each bottle of the perfume an object of desire. The last representative of the Guerlain family left the company in 2002, after the LVMH luxury goods mega-corporation owned the brand.
The brand has always had famous people among its fans. For example, Marilyn Monroe couldnt get on stage without her favourite lipstick Rouge Diabolique by Guerlain, which she used to apply in 5 layers. By the way, in the modern line of decorative cosmetics this lipstick can be found under the name KissKiss № 522.
Not surprising that iconic lipstick has limited edition KissKiss Gold and Diamonds, which is rightly considered the most expensive lipstick in the world. Pure gold case, decorated with 199 diamonds and rubies costs about $62000.
